Please can you advise if the laptop can offer this "out of the box' or would i need to buy an additional hardware. If so, what? HP G5 and G5 machines use very similar hardware except screen sizes. Please check the following table. Sounds like you need a docking station. My problem is that when both monitors are connected, the laptop screen turns off.

As soon as I disconnect one of the monitors the the screen comes back.

According to the specs I should be able to run with 3 screens. Is there a way to keep the laptop screen on? Right now one monitor is connected via HDMI to the dock, the other is connected on the display port also on the docking station. I tried connecting one of the monitors directly to the laptop via hdmi and the second monitor on the dock via hdmi, same results, to beautiful displays working but no laptop screen.

The dock has 2 display ports and one hdmi port. Didn't find what you were looking for? Ask the community. HP Elitebook 840 G5 Can Only Use One Monitor at a Time via Docking Station

However, when we unplug the Video cable and reboot with only the VGA, it appears. When we plug both directly into the laptop hp G1 both are displayed.

I had the user pop the laptop on another users docking station and got the same result. Graphics drivers are all updated. Make sure you configure the additional screen there. I had exactly the same with a Dell laptop. Windows didn't detect the 3rd screen. Once I configured it in the Intel app all worked OK. Is the video driver up to date? There is also a firmware update for the dock display port. Also are You able to try 2 display port connections instead of 1 with vga? I saw one owner report that once he used a larger Dell power supply on his docking station the problem he was having with the multiple displays was cured.

A, Pass: 1, 1 January,sp Then make sure the monitor is enabled powered on from the Windows Display Manager. Update BIOS and all drivers on the computer. After that update firmware on the docking station. As said above you may need to enable the second monitor in Windows Display Manager manually.

Disable integrated graphics card. Yeah I think Priscilla has got you here. I don't think I would have hit all the version levels right or would have been as thorough. We love our dual monitor setups and now that the movement is for mobile, docking stations are almost a must. I can't say I've hit what you are dealing with but I can see that would be super frustrating.Connect with HP support faster, manage all your devices in one place, view warranty information and more— Click Here.

Thanks for the reply. I found this FW update in other threads, and have tried to install plenty of times.

I should mention here, as well, the laptop won't detect both monitors. In order to get both to display, I have to from docking station unplug both cables, plug in VGA, wawit for image, and then plug in DP. Any ideas? Thanks in advance. I experience the same issue with his hardware docking station, monitors, cablesand does NOT experience the issue with his hardware or my hardware.

I hope people find a resolution to their problem. I found this firmware update listed in other threads. I am glad the issue has been resolved for many people, apparently. The issue is that I cannot install the firmware update, also paired with that I cannot find a firmware update for my docking station, which I cannot seem to identify with HP's product number and serial number.

Good luck! And Thanks! Also, if you got a new mainboard with the additional capacitors to prevent "bridging" of the processor with cellular signals, did that permanently solve it? And the monitors don't always "blink in sync".

Corncob75, thanks for posting the information. Does it seem that the new main boards were a lasting solution? Here we are ina year and a half from the last post, and I'm still having this exact problem. Has anyone found a permanent fix?

DisplayPort to DisplayPort two daisy-changed external monitors - they both blink but not at the same time.

It seems to come and go for me, especially after a reboot. If things were mostly ok, I might reboot and the blink frequency goes way up. Another reboot and it might go way down. Or stay the same. There really seems to be no rhyme or reason. Sorry all, for some reason when I went to update my status on this reply to Skriddles back in Oct it said the thread was locked?

Thought HP must have locked it down from new comments. We haven't seen the issue since this, nor have we seen it on any newer model we're on the G5, and G5 HealthCare models now.

We have not had to do any extra software or firmware changes to the Dock itself. Didn't find what you were looking for? Ask the community. Auto-suggest helps you quickly narrow down your search results by suggesting possible matches as you type. Showing results for.

My company just provided us with new notebooks and the ultraslim docking station.

Here are my troubleshooting steps:. This did not resolve the issue. This eliminates driver issues and also issues with the graphics card on the notebook. This eliminates issues with the DVI cable. This eliminates issues with the monitor. Since I've updated the firmware for the docking station currently set at version 2. I can't update the BIOS on the notebook because it is locked down by my company's administrator - but if both monitors work when plugged directly into the laptop, I don't believe the BIOS on the notebook is the problem.

I can see various posts regarding issues with dual display on this docking station dating all the way back to January So, this isn't a new problem - just new to me as my old HP p had no issue with this setup sometimes newer is not necessarily better. However, will there ever be a solution by HP? I'll call Vegas to get the odds on that. I was having this same issue and took the usual steps, re-installing drivers, testing monitor cables and monitors, etc.

I ended up trying the laptop on another dock and it worked fine. So I swapped the user's docking station out with the one from my test area. Then I took the user's "broken" dock and hooked it back up in my test area and it worked fine. So both docking stations work fine. Didn't find what you were looking for? Ask the community. Tech support scams are an industry-wide issue where scammers trick you into paying for unnecessary technical support services. You can help protect yourself from scammers by verifying that the contact is a Microsoft Agent or Microsoft Employee and that the phone number is an official Microsoft global customer service number.

I know this topic comes up often but I've read through them all and this specific issue does not appear on this forum anywhere, it pertains to the computer model in the title. For the record, this issue is for an employer-issued PC and I would never spend my money on any HP products. I was reading an email on my laptop, which is connected to a docking station, which is connected to two monitors. Without me touching anything, the second monitor suddenly shut off.

I checked the display settings:. Then I tried to re-add it as a device, here's the Devices screen:. And there are my two monitors, already there So my issue is that I can't add the monitor as a device because the Devices screen says it is already connected, but I can't get the monitor to work because the Display Settings screen says the monitor is not there.

Another strange detail: when I unplug the monitor that is working, the second monitor turns back on and becomes my main screen. This leads me to believe that it is not a problem with the cable or the monitor or any of the hardware for that matter?

Has anyone ever seen this odd behavior before? Windows can automatically detect one additional display. If you connect two or more monitors, you must manually designate the primary display, and apply display settings. So, when you connect it the next time, Windows will identify the primary display and applies the settings specified for each additional display.

Refer this article on Update drivers in Windows You can also update the graphics driver from the HP website for the product that you are using. I would also suggest you to download and run the HP Support Assistant. This will provide support for updating and managing the device firmware on the system. Take your time to try the suggestions and let us know the results at your earlier convenience.

I would like to connect two external monitors in extended mode not mirror and I understand that the USB-C port on this laptop is just a simple one and doesn't support video over USB-C. If anyone has successfully tried to connect a monitor over this port, I would love to know. Didn't find what you were looking for? Ask the community.
